Traveling Man's Emporium

The Traveling Man's Emporium focuses on making men's civilian and military clothing. All clothing items are made by myself in my home workshop using highly researched and documented patterns. Many of the patterns are made directly from original garments. I take great pride in the authenticity and quality of the items I make. Some of the items I make include Kepi's, Vest, Shirts, Frock Coats, Trousers, Sack Coats, Jackets, and Overcoats.

"Confederate Dead in the trench at Fort Sanders"
by Wendal Decker 2008

This tactical event is designed to mimic and bring to light "the race to Knoxville" by Generals Burnside and Longstreet, following the Chattanooga campaign. The weekend will include activity initially that relates to the battle at Campbell’s Station. There will also be activity to recreate the lesser known battle at Armstrong Hill, south of the city and on the south side of the Holston River (now the Tennessee River). Historically, the positions south of the city would have been instrumental to the confederate victory. Longstreet knew that if he could seize the forts of Higley, Dickerson and Stanley, he would soon gain control of Fort Loudon (Fort Loudon would soon be renamed for a young and fallen Col William Price Sanders). Ambrose Burnside gave Sanders a command in the Department of the Ohio, resulting in his transfer to Cincinnati, Ohio. Burnside then decided to have Colonel Sanders lead a raid into East Tennessee, where he was to scout out the enemy, as well as disrupt communication and transportation networks. He also pursued Morgan's Raiders. Sanders later returned to Kentucky, where he was promoted to brigadier general on October 18, 1863, although this appointment was never confirmed by the Senate. Sanders next moved with his forces to Knoxville, where he arrived September 3, 1863. On November 18, Sanders was struck in the side by forces under the command of Confederate Colonel E.P. Alexander, an acquaintance of Sanders. The sharpshooter is believed to have been in the tower of Bleak House. Sanders was taken to the Lamar House, where he died the next day.

There will be no walk-ons.  If you fail to pass inspection you may be asked to leave, unless you can remedy the problem. Please come prepared. If you need assistance to meet guidelines, please ask.  Bring a good attitude and be prepared to follow military guard and detail guidelines.

**No one in the ranks under 18 years of age without legal guardian in the ranks as well.  This will be a case by case consideration.  Decision will be made by event staff. Please contact us if there are any questions.**
